The Holy Week in the Philippines is a significant religious observance for the country’s Roman Catholic majority. It begins on Palm Sunday and continues on through to Black Saturday. Throughout the Holy Week, many communities observe Catholic rituals such as processions with Jesus, Mother Mary, the apostles and many saints; recitation or chanting of the story of Passion; a stage or street play about the life and Passion of Jesus and visitation of the churches.
On Palm Sunday, worshipers bear ornately woven palm fronds to church for the blessing by the priest before or after the mass. Many Filipinos then bring the blessed palms home and place these on doors or on windows.
On Holy Monday, the Recollect Order in Manila holds its famous Procession of the Passion of Christ with its famous image, the miraculous Black Nazarene.
On Maundy Thursday, marks the beginning of the Paschal Triduum
On Good Friday, parishes often setup stations in the town for believers to walk the Way of the Cross and preach the Seven Last Words of Jesus. Pahalik – a devotion that involves kissing an image of the dead body of Jesus is observed on this day in every church. The highlight of this day is the Santo Entierro – includes carriages with statues. The main carriage is an elaborate casket in which the body of Jesus can be seen laid out. Tradition dictates that the image of the Virgin Mary, dressed in black and gold as the mourning Mater Dolorosa, is always the final image in the procession.
On Easter, it typically begins with a pre-dawn celebration known as Salubong – wherein statues of the risen Christ and Mary are taken to meet one another with joy and celebration.
This Holy Week, let us all be reminded of God’s sacrifices and His undying love for us and that may we share it to everyone.
聖週間はこのローマカトリックの国の宗教的に重要な守るべき期間。
枝の主日～聖土曜日。多くの共同体は、この1週間、カトリックの諸儀式等（イエス、聖母等との行列、受難の朗読・聖歌、イエスの生涯と受難劇等）を行う。
・枝の日曜日：信徒は装飾用の枝と葉を持参し、祝福を受け、帰宅して戸や窓を飾る。
・聖月曜日；マニラの瞑想修道会は、有名な奇跡のイエスキリスト像の行列を行う。
・洗足の木曜日：過ぎ越し祭りの始まり。
・聖金曜日：小教区で、信徒がイエスの道行きをし、イエスの最後の7つの言葉を説くための設営をするところもある。すべての教会で亡くなったイエスの像に口づけが行われる。この日のハイライトは葬列。（黒と金の衣装の嘆きの聖母をしんがりにするのが伝統。）
・復活の主日：通常は夜明け前の式。（その中で、復活のキリスト像と聖母が喜びのうちに再会する。）
